Author Description:
Chris is the co-founder of the pfSense open source firewall distribution, a popular FreeBSD-based firewall and router. He has been working with Unix operating systems for nearly 15 years, and the BSDs for nearly 10 years. He makes a living as the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of BSD Perimeter LLC, the corporate arm of the pfSense project, helping customers with a wide range of network and security needs. He is a frequent presenter at conferences such as BSDCan, EuroBSDCon and other BSD and security-related conferences.
Abstract:
At the time of EuroBSDCon 2010, pfSense 2.0 will be newly released or near release. This tutorial will be a training-focused session, covering many of the changes in the 2.0 release, both from the perspective of a new user and providing information on changes for existing users of the project. Common usage scenarios, deployment considerations, step by step configuration guidance, and best practices will be covered for many features. Many configurations will be demonstrated in a live lab environment.

Attendees are assumed to have basic knowledge of TCP/IP and firewalling concepts, however no in-depth knowledge in these areas or prior knowledge of pfSense or FreeBSD is necessary.

This tutorial is revised and updated version of the one presented at BSDCan 2010, incorporating attendee feedback and new developments as the 2.0 release is completed.
